RCB hammer sorry Kings XI to stay alive in playoff race!

The hammering of Kings XI secures RCB’s first back-to-back wins of the tournament, coming on the brink of elimination when they needed them most, while their defeated Indore hosts have lost five of their last six as they slip from third to fifth in the table.

Kings XI are now bunched together on six wins with both the Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals – who clash on Tuesday – while RCB and the Mumbai Indians are in hot pursuit on five wins apiece and with two more games to play.

Kings XI’s disastrous innings, after being put into bat, was all the more staggering when you consider that a massive 459 runs were smashed on the same surface on Saturday when they lost to Kolkata.

The home side got off to a decent enough start here, with the in-form KL Rahul (21 off 15) blasting three sixes and his opening partner Chris Gayle (18 off 14) four boundaries. But, as has been the case during Kings XI’s recent struggles, once the pair were dismissed there was very little else offered by the rest of the batting line-up.

It was Umesh Yadav (3-23) that did the damage, bouncing out Rahul and Gayle within three balls of each other in the fifth over – from there, Aaron Finch (26) was the only other batsman to manage a double-figure score as 10 wickets, including three run outs, fell for 52 runs, with Kings XI skittled in 15.1 overs.

In reply, RCB quickly set about their target knowing that, as well as the win, they needed to improve their net run-rate in order to help their playoff hopes. Captain Virat Kohli led the way with six fours and two sixes in an unbeaten 48 off 28, while Parthiv Patel (40no off 22) played his part too to clinch a comprehensive victory.
