Flying after two consecutive victories over Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore, the Dinesh Kartik-led KKR were shocked into focus after they lost two consecutive matches against Mumbai Indians. Now, a spot in the Playoff hangs in a balance, with both Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals in contention to be the fourth team to make it through the round robin stages. A visit to Indore to take on Kings XI Punjab is much crucial for KKR as they need to pick up a victory to move along ahead in the table. But KXIP, who have a terrific home record this season, will not be an easy opponent to take on.
KKR’s last game was an embarrassing 102 run defeat to a resurgent Mumbai Indians (MI) side. Mumbai riding on Ishan Kishan’s blistering 62 off just 21 balls and Ben Cutting’s 21 off 9 deliveries reached a mammoth total of 210 in their 20 overs.
Chris Lynn and Robin Uthappa who scored 21 runs each were the highest scorers for KKR as their entire batting unit collapsed under the pressure of chasing a high total. They were bowled out in the nineteenth over having managed to score just 108 runs.
A win for Kolkata this evening could see them reclaim fourth spot whereas Punjab who are placed third will be looking to consolidate their position as the race for the playoffs heats up.
Talking specifically about Sunil Narain’s performance in today’s match then it will be remembered as one of his remarkable performance against KXIP. As Naraine blew the bowling attack of KXIP with a strike rate of 208.65 and managed to hit 75 off 36 balls which included 9 massive fours and 4 outstanding six’s.
